Summer Season Choices 2016

Shokugeki no Soma Season 2

This starts from where it left off in last years anime season. The Autumn Election finals are under way, with strong characters like Soma and Megumi representing the misunderstood Polar Star Dorm! Who will be the ultimate winner?

Momokuri

In this anime you get a lovely mixture of cute and damn right crazy. This is about a girl called Yuki Kurihara, a second year high school student, who falls in love with Shinya Momotsuki, a boy a year below her. She takes secret photos of him for her ‘Momo-kun Photo Collection’. When the collection hits a hundred, she decides to confess to him. He agrees to go out with her and, the anime follows them as they progress in their relationship.

This Art Club Has a Problem!

This Art Club Has a Problem! is about a group of middle school students who are a member of the schools art club. One member, Uchimaki Subaru, uses his skills to create the perfect 2D Waifu, whilst another member ,Usami Mizuki,  pines over him whilst drawing normal things. The president sleeps all the time on the sofa, whilst a strange foreign student called Colette, pops up every now and again. This anime is random and sometimes hits on dangerously boring.

NEW GAME!

After graduating high school, Suzukaze Aoba gets a job at a gaming company called Eagle Jump. It is not any ordinary gaming company though, as it is the company that produced ‘Fairies Story’, the game that she obsessed over as a child. The anime is about her getting her footing in the company, learning design and making new friends.

Sweetness and Lightning

Kohei lost his wife six months ago and is now a single father of his young daughter Tsumugi. He can’t cook and has trouble balancing his professional life as a teacher. Over a chance encounter at a flower festival, he meets Kotori, a student in his class. Her mum is a busy professional cook and owns a restaurant, yet she can’t cook herself. The anime is about them learning to cook together with his daughter and, trying yummy food!

Amanchu!

Last but not least is Amanchu, an anime about a young girl nicknamed ‘Teko’, who moves to a new school is a new town. She meets a girl nicknamed ‘Pikari’, who is a diver at the local diving school, of which her grandma owns. Pikari introduces Teko to the wonderful world of diving, accompanied by their new friends at the schools diving club.

Anne-Happy

Tennomifune Academy, is an elite academy. There are three groups of students; one that studies academics, one that studies sports and lastly, the happiness class. These students have been assessed based on their luck and have been deemed unlucky. Every lesson is a ridiculous task to increase their happiness, led by an overpowered bipolar home room teacher and a small rabbit robot called Timothy, who Anne tries to hug all the time, but always fails.

The main characters consist of five girls;  Anne Hanakoizumi (mentioned above), who is terribly unlucky with pretty much anything. Ruri Habarigaoka, who is in love with a construction sign, so deemed unlucky in love.  Botan Kumegawa who cannot stand physical activity and anything really, without falling to pieces, so unlucky in health. Lastly are the childhood friends Hibiki Hagyu and Ren Ekoda. Hibiki is unlucky with navigation, so gets lost twenty four seven, whereas Ren,  has a condition where females of all species are attracted to her. She wakes up every morning with female animals on her, when she sleeps with her window open.

This anime is incredibly colourful, simplistic and as you may have guessed it, happy. The whole anime reminds me of rainbows , confetti and sweets. The characters are adorable teenage girls, with huge eyes and cute natures. Their voice acting is incredibly charming and very realistic. The only thing I did not like about it was its story line, or lack of. Each episode is a random adventure, spouting about dreams and friendship. It is more of an anime for a child. It had so much going for it, yet due to this points, it went down on my list. Overall, it probably earned four out of ten.

Super Sonico the Animation!!

A few days ago, whilst roaming through Crunchyroll, I found an image. This image was of a cute girl, with big boobs and a clumsy look. I am not usually into that kind of anime (being a small boob lady myself), but it looked so happy, I had to give it a try.

Super Sonico is a mascot for Nitroplus, the computer and video game company. She has appeared in games such as SoniComi (2011) and SoniPro (2014). She hit the big screens in early 2014, in SoniAni: Super Sonico the Animation.

When I started watching it, I had no idea Super Sonico was a game idol (I thought it was a every day life anime, of a cute shapely girl in interesting clothes) Yet, when you watch the anime you get little clues. In the anime she is referred to as ‘Super Sonico’ and, most of the end credits are in 3D.

The anime itself is happy, bouncy and very ecchi. You get an insight into a life of a hard working girl, with very far fetched jobs. You come across interesting people, with interesting friendships and interesting personalities. It is colourful and energetic. Overall, I am happy to say, I love it.

Nozoki Ana

Kido Tatsuhiko moved to Tokyo to attend an art school. He moved into an apartment building, to start his new life. What he didn’t expect, was to find a hole in his small room and a woman peeping on the other side. The peeping woman, Emiru Ikuno, turns out to be a new class mate and starts a rota for her peeping habit. With this in place, she causes problems for Kido, at his school, in his relationships and, feeling comfortable in his new home. The manga is about how they both deal with this new habit and, how they develop feelings for each other.

This is a manga that I found hard to follow, the art is not of the normal manga variety and, the speech was so relaxed and a little dirty. The art falls into a raunchy category, but the man parts and the lower woman part are cleverly missed out. Yet, even though it is dirty, raunchy and hard to follow, I somehow became captivated. Every waking moment, I was sat on my computer rapidly pressing the right arrow button. I needed to see the next scene, I needed to see what happened next. It just turned out to be deliciously addictive. So much so, that when I came to the end, I felt unsatisfied. I find that this is a good thing in a manga, even if the art isn’t to your taste, it can still take your interest and turn you into an avid reader. I recommend this to anyone who is over the age of 18, just in case.

Shokugeki no Soma

Shokugeki no Soma is a cooking manga that is increasing in popularity. So popular in fact, that it has just recently become an anime. It has only reached its second episode, but it is very entertaining, a lot like its original manga.

The manga is about Soma Yukihara, the 15 year old boy who is obsessed with cooking and wants to become a chef that is better than his father. He works in his fathers special of the day restaurant, where he has cooking contests with him and always loses. One day, his father closes the restaurant and tells Soma that he is going away for a few years to cook with a friend. He calls this an opportunity for Soma to hone his cooking skills and sends him to an elite cooking school called Totsuki Culinary Academy. If he can’t survive the cooking school, he has no hope of reaching his fathers level.

At this academy, he comes across the next generation of elite chefs and works hard not to get expelled. The school has a low graduation rate with hard tests that Soma must complete. He comes across a lot of characters on his journey to greatness and establishes a lot of precious relationships. He meets Megumi, his kind hearted friend in a dorm full of misfits. He also meets the established Erina Nakiri, the youngest member of the elite ten executive committee in the school and the possessor of gods tongue. After reading 121 chapters, I am still not sure as to what that is.

The manga itself has intricate illustrations of dishes the characters create. The food looks delicious and the process of how the characters make it is very interesting. The manga turns cooking into a superpower and over dramatises everything. It even makes you want to become a chef. The only downfall is that it is released every month and I am a very impatient person. It is without a doubt a read that you will enjoy.

Ecchi Rose Likes Senran Kagura!

Senran Kagura, I am sure everyone has heard of it. The new game that has come out, where the clothes fall off depending on the hits the characters takes. Well, now it has the form of an anime. The anime focus is on the light shinobi faction. Hanzo Academy is a normal school on the outside, but has a shinobi school on the inside. There are only five students at this school, all of which are female with big boobs and short skirts. Azuka, is the main character of the series. Her grandfather is a legendary shinobi and, her parents run a sushi bar. The other characters consist of Ikaruga, a rich girl with a terrible past, Katsuragi, the tom boy character, Hibari, the cute and useless type and Yagyu, the girl who protects Hibari from everything.

The story line follows the five doing their training and missions, along with encountering the rival dark faction school. The difference with this school, is that ‘The light favours few, where the dark favours all’. This school is a full school of shinobi, coming from any background, whereas the light school only accepts students from a shinobi background. The school consists of its students, that go through intense training and, the elite five. Hanzos School rivals Homura, the leader of the group, Yomi, the huge sword wielding girl, Mikage, the ex gang member, Mirai, the young girl who wants to avenge her bullied past and Haruka, the saucy big busted girl.

Overall, I would say that the anime is very captivating (not just because of the big boobs). The action scenes are pretty good, along with the character relationships. I would give it about a 7/10 overall.

Omamori Himari

I have only read the manga of this mainly because I am on strike with the fandom of the bouncy boob anime. The story is about a boy named Yuto. He lives on his own as his parents died. His is looked after by his cute neighbour Rinko. One day, they are attacked by their school friend. A cute girl jumps in with a sword, but she has cat ears and a tail. It turns out that Yuto’s seal has just broken and now he is the target of all the ayashi. He comes from a long line of demon slayers, yet his parents moved him away so he wouldn’t have to face it. Now that everyone in his family has died, he is the next in line to become a demon slayer. The cute girl with the adorable cat ears Himari, has been entrusted to protect him until his powers manifest. Her family has served his for years, so she has a devout loyalty to him.

The story of Omamori Himari is more of a fantasy romantic harem than anything else. Yuto has ayashi falling in love with him, along with his cute human neighbour. With the stress of girls and being attacked by demons, how could he possibly cope? the story has humour mixed with fighting action. But overall it is just humour.
